A Biological, Psychological, and Social Approach to Mental Health Treatment

A Biological, Psychological, and Social Approach to Mental Health

A Conversation with Nick Nissen, MD – Medical Director

The Fragmentation of Traditional Mental Health Treatment

When it comes to mental health treatment as it exists for most people, it’s very fragmented. You have a long wait to get a prescriber, and then eventually you get one; then you may or may not have a long wait to get a therapist, but they often don’t already know each other don’t really talk to each other. You’re normally getting individual treatment by two people that may or may not be in communication, and for our type of patient or client, there’s a very important family system or system around them that is contributing to their symptoms, or that is a part of these behavioral episodes that is not being addressed in this individual treatment. People, you know, that aren’t in a in in our treatment setting and most people that are in outpatient setting, they’re just receiving care that’s very fragmented and very, very broken up.

Integrating Biological, Psychological, and Social Care

What happens is when they come to us, it’s all brought together under the same roof, where you have a strategy on the biological side but you also have a strategy on the psychological side and also on the social side.

Collaborative Treatment as a Single Holistic Package

Under one roof, we are collaborating and working together as a psychiatrist medical director with a bit of a focus on the biological side, on medications, on ruling out medical causes of the symptoms, supplements, sleep, exercise, nutrition, in collaboration with the individual therapy, the group sessions, but then also the family sessions or the couple sessions. We can take something that’s very fragmented and put it together into a single holistic package for each client.
